BABEL VII / Moldy Moulds
avec la contribution de Tiphaine Calmettes
Mold is a disgusting thing, it grows throughout living and dead material, all surfaces. It spreads its venes and leaves infected ground. But it is also artistic material. It is beautiful. French cheese is amazing.
We brougt together works referencing mold in two different ways:
BABEL VII will include the natural process of moulding. Babel as a space has been damaged over years. The control of water over space, property as well as human recourses will be brought together with its potential in the arts.
We create moulds as general forms, the process of shaping objects in a sculptural way, forms and anti-forms.The moment both components come together, sculpture and decolorations, fuzzy appearances and forms in general collide to the ugly but also stimulating truth: Water is life and has the power to destroy it. The wrong amount of water can destroy everything you own, your health system, your skin, your body from the inside as well as from the outside. Wrong water regulations, climate change,
failed constructions bring diseases till people die painful deaths and buildings are unusable. Mould is a slowly growing spectacle, a spectacle in nature and in the studio. Dead shapes are being replaced by new living forms.
